Opportunity Information

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) is seeking a Board‑Eligible or Board‑Certified Obstetrician‑Gynecologist to join Sutter Amador OB/GYN, a close‑knit, community‑focused practice nestled in the heart of California’s scenic Sierra Foothills.

This is a primarily obstetrics‑focused role serving an appreciative and underserved patient population, including an unmet gynecologic population in a rural region where physicians are truly valued. You’ll practice at Sutter Amador Hospital, a well‑supported 53‑bed rural hospital known for its exceptional labor & delivery nursing team, outstanding patient satisfaction, and a community that genuinely loves and trusts Sutter Health.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Low‑acuity OB practice averaging 20–25 deliveries per month
  • Supportive, collaborative environment with experienced nursing staff
  • Senior care focus with continuity and relationship‑based medicine
  • Ample resources for a rural setting, including:
    • Robotic‑assisted surgery capabilities
    • Opportunity to grow and shape the GYN surgical program
  • Minimal on‑site subspecialty services (no NICU, MFM, or Urology), with strong referral relationships to nearby Sutter tertiary care centers
  • Excellent work/life balance with predictable volumes and call

Teaching & Professional Fulfillment

For those passionate about education and mentorship, this role offers the chance to participate in graduate medical education, teaching:

  • OB/GYN residents
  • Family Medicine residents in a rural residency track

Help shape the next generation of physicians while practicing high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Call Schedule (1:3 Ratio)

  • Weekday Call: Tuesday–Thursday, two weeks per month (6 days total)
  • Weekend Call: Friday–Monday, one weekend per month (4 days total)

Total: 10 call days per month

Physicians also rotate 1–2 days per month at Sutter Medical Center Sacramento to maintain clinical skills and tertiary‑care exposure.

Live Where Others Vacation

Jackson offers a relaxed, small‑town lifestyle with easy access to outdoor recreation, wineries, historic charm, and mountain views—all while being just one hour from Sacramento.

Within 30 minutes of Jackson, you’ll enjoy quick access to:

  • Sutter Creek – charming Gold Rush town with dining and boutiques
  • Plymouth – heart of Amador Wine Country
  • Pine Grove – quiet foothill living with hiking and open space
  • Volcano – historic town with arts and community events
  • Martell & Amador City – wineries, tasting rooms, and local culture

Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Napa Valley are all within easy weekend driving distance.
