Opportunity Information

Sutter Medical Group is seeking a supplemental (part time) Benign Hematologist to provide expert consultation and care for patients with non-malignant hematologic disorders. This position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outpatient and/or inpatient consultation services for patients with benign hematologic conditions, including but not limited to:
    • Anemias (e.g., iron deficiency, hemolytic, aplastic)
    • Hemoglobinopathies (e.g., sickle cell disease, thalassemia)
    • Coagulation and platelet disorders (e.g., ITP, von Willebrand disease, hemophilia)
    • Thrombophilias and clotting disorders
  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic results relevant to hematologic diseases.
  • Collaborate with referring providers, primary care physicians, and other specialists to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Participate in tumor boards or hematology case conferences, as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional guidelines.

Schedule & Work Expectations:

  • Supplemental, flexible schedule based on departmental needs and candidate availability.
  • May include outpatient clinic coverage, inpatient consults, or telehealth, depending on institutional needs.
  • No mandatory call, but optional call or weekend coverage may be available.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree with board certification or board eligibility in Hematology (ABIM or equivalent).
  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the state of California.
  • Demonstrated expertise in benign (non-malignant) hematology.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a hospital or academic medical center setting.
  • Familiarity with Epic or other EMR systems.
  • Interest in quality improvement or clinical teaching (if applicable).
